Haryana scales up industry-linked skill training: 664 DST trade units enrolled across 125 government ITIs

Panchkula, Oct 23 (UNI) In a major push to strengthen industry-oriented skill development and enhance youth employability, the Haryana Government is scaling up the Dual System of Training (DST), with 664 trade units linked to 320 industries across 125 Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) for the 2026–27 session.
The Directorate of Skill Development and Industrial Training organised a DST kick-off workshop for Ambala Division at Kaushal Bhawan, Panchkula, on October 22, 2026, under the chairpersonship of Dr G. Anupama, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to the Haryana Government, Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Department.
The workshop aimed to strengthen industry–ITI partnerships, expand awareness about the scheme and encourage industries to provide hands-on, on-the-job training to ITI trainees, equipping them with practical skills aligned with evolving industrial requirements.
Addressing the participants, Dr Anupama highlighted the significant expansion of the scheme since its launch in 2018–19, when it began with just four trade units to meet industry demand for skilled manpower. The initiative has since expanded to 664 trade units in 47 different trades, with the participation of 320 industries and 125 Government ITIs across Haryana.
Emphasising the employment potential of the initiative, Dr Anupama said that DST trainees receive practical exposure to advanced machinery and modern industrial processes at industry premises. Under the scheme, trainees in one-year ITI courses receive three to six months of on-the-job training, while those enrolled in two-year courses receive six to twelve months of industry-based training.
She noted that this practical exposure enhances trainees’ technical competence, familiarises them with actual workplace requirements and improves their prospects of securing employment after completing their courses.
Describing DST as a flagship scheme of the Directorate, Dr Anupama appreciated the efforts of departmental officers, principals and group instructors of Government ITIs, as well as participating industries, for advancing its implementation across the state.
Representatives from 30 industries participated in the workshop, along with the Joint Director of the District Industries Centre and principals and group instructor in-charges of Government ITIs from Ambala Division.
During the session, Manoj Saini, Assistant Director (Technical) and Nodal Officer for DST, delivered a detailed presentation explaining the implementation process and key operational aspects of the scheme.
Kamalpreet Kaur, Additional Director (Administration); Rajesh Goel, Managing Director, Haryana Skill Development Mission (HSDM); and Rajkumar, Additional Director, were also present.
