Omar Abdullah invites people to experience the beauty of Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood

Srinagar, Oct 23 (UNI) Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood, Srinagar’s first exclusive chrysanthemum garden, would help extend the tourism season in Kashmir by offering visitors a distinct floral attraction.
Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the garden for the second time, Omar said the initiative was aimed at creating special attractions at both ends of Kashmir’s tourism season.
“Our effort to develop this garden has been to give a boost to our tourism season,” he said, adding that the Department of Floriculture had developed Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood to offer visitors a unique experience during a period when there were fewer distinctive attractions.
Nestled against the Zabarwan mountains and overlooking the sparkling waters of Dal Lake, the terraced Bagh-e-Gul Dawood is located alongside Srinagar’s iconic Tulip Garden.
Inviting people to visit the garden, Omar said, “I invite not only people from across the country who are keen to visit Kashmir, but, even more importantly, our own people from Srinagar and the surrounding areas, to come and enjoy the beauty of this garden.”
He also urged visitors to take photographs and create lasting memories of the garden.
Highlighting the progress made since its launch last year, the Chief Minister said the garden had developed considerably and that efforts would continue to enhance its appeal.
“Those of you who were with me at last year's inauguration, and those who have taken the opportunity to visit on this occasion, must have seen for yourselves how much this garden has progressed,” he said.
Chief Minister said the garden also offered an advantage in terms of sustainability, as its planting material could be propagated locally, unlike tulip bulbs, which have to be imported repeatedly.
“One major advantage of this garden is that, unlike the Tulip Garden, for which we repeatedly have to bring bulbs from outside the country, the plant material for Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood is our own. We propagate it and multiply it,” he said.
He added that the government would endeavour to introduce new features to the garden every year to maintain its appeal and strengthen its role as a tourism attraction.
Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood is being developed as a seasonal floral destination to complement Kashmir’s established spring tourism attractions and encourage visitors to explore the region beyond the peak tulip season.
