Under ‘Visit My State’, UP trains local hosts to strengthen Homestay Tourism

Lucknow, Sep 19 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh is strengthening the homestay network at the heart of its ‘Visit My State’ campaign, preparing local hosts to turn rural hospitality, cuisine, crafts and traditions into professionally managed visitor experiences.
Thirty one homestay operators from 14 districts completed a five day training programme at the Manyawar Kanshiram Institute of Tourism Management in Lucknow on Saturday.
Held from September 15 to 19, the programme combined business and hospitality skills with practical exposure to responsible rural tourism.
State Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said, “Under the leadership of CM Yogi, the state government is working to make homestays a bridge between travellers and local communities.
"By combining professional hospitality with local food, culture and experiences, homestay operators can build sustainable enterprises, create employment and take tourism benefits deeper into rural Uttar Pradesh.”
The training covered digital marketing and payments, online promotion, pricing and cost management, guest registration, grievance handling, hygiene, safety and service standards.
Operators were also taught how to present local cuisine, organic produce and nearby attractions as part of a distinctive destination experience.
The final day took learning beyond the classroom.
Participants visited Krishna Homestay, Akash Homestay and a farm stay in Midori in Lucknow, where they observed day to day operations and guest services.
Boating, interactions with pottery makers and activities built around local games demonstrated how a homestay can offer travellers a wider experience of rural life.
A session on storytelling showed operators how local history, customs and community narratives can make a visitor’s stay more engaging.
The approach aligns with ‘Visit My State’, which encourages residents and tourism stakeholders to present Uttar Pradesh through its lesser known places and lived traditions.
The participants represented Ambedkar Nagar, Shamli, Chandauli, Siddharthnagar, Hamirpur, Mathura, Pratapgarh, Fatehpur, Kannauj, Firozabad, Lakhimpur Kheri, Moradabad, Amroha and Ghaziabad.
They were assessed at the end of the programme and awarded certificates.
Singh said the state would need a substantially larger homestay network, including around one lakh rooms, to serve its growing tourism economy.
Uttar Pradesh has set a long term goal of raising tourism’s contribution to the state’s Gross Value Added to 5 per cent and its share in the country’s tourism GVA to 16 per cent by 2047.
The training programme is intended to help this expansion translate into consistent service standards, stronger local enterprises and more authentic experiences for visitors exploring Uttar Pradesh beyond its established tourism centres.
