Cong govt to recruit 2,000 CBSE teachers by December in Himachal: CM

Solan, Sep 19 (UNI) In a decisive push to revamp Himachal’s human development framework, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday announced that 2,000 teachers will be recruited for state-run CBSE schools within the next three months.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the historic, 388-year-old state-level Sair fair at Arki on Saturday evening, the Chief Minister mounted a robust defense of his administration’s governance record, coupling systemic welfare initiatives with a targeted critique of previous fiscal practices.
He highlighted that the administration’s drive against corruption has plugged fiscal leaks to save approximately ₹3,000 crore, funds- he noted are being redirected toward social safety nets, including welfare programmes for widows, orphans, and marginalized communities.
Reflecting on the government’s rollout of 150 CBSE affiliated state schools, an initiative initially met with political skepticism, CM asserted that the transition is firmly on track.
Between five to eight educators have already been deployed per institution strictly on merit, bypassing the earlier process of discretionary appointments.
"CBSE education in private institutions remains financially prohibitive for ordinary families. Our objective is to democratize that standard of schooling within the public sector at an affordable cost," Sukhu said, adding that Diggal, Bhumti, and Jai Nagar schools in the region will soon join the CBSE roster.
Detailing institutional upgrades, the chief minister drew parallels with apex medical centres like AIIMS New Delhi, noting that state medical colleges have systematically replaced diagnostic machinery that had sat obsolete for nearly two decades.
Backing recent inductions of 200 medical officers, he committed to recruiting another 228 doctors shortly, with dedicated specialist postings earmarked for Arki and the Adarsh Swasthya Sansthans across assembly segments.
On the rural economy front, the chief minister underscored unprecedented procurement hikes for milk alongside minimum support price (MSP) mechanisms for ginger, aimed at hedging cash-crop farmers against market volatility.
Sukhu framed the interstate negotiations over the Kishau Multipurpose Project as a benchmark of cooperative federalism that safeguarded Himachal’s sovereign fiscal interests during critical upstream water demands from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana.
He argued that renegotiating terms prevented an estimated ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 crore capital burden and preserved ₹1,200 to ₹1,500 crore in recurring annual revenue—terms that neighboring hill states had sought but could not secure.
Turning to regional industrial governance, he signaled a strict review of past industrial land distributions. Sukhu disclosed that nearly 5,000 bighas allocated across the Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh (BBN) corridor without registration fees remain unutilized, warning that the state is actively pursuing cancellation of non-compliant leases and initiating confiscation procedures against disproportionate, illicitly amassed assets.
In direct response to local representations forwarded by Arki MLA Sanjay Awasthi, the CM okayed the repair of the Kunihar–Sarma, Mangu–Malawan, Jabban–Jai Nagar, Bhumti–Dadan–Piplooghat, and Kohu–Bhiyunkari (via Saur) road stretches.
The chief minister ordered the restoration of the Shimla–Dhaina bus route and assured favorable administrative review for both an Arki Skill Development Centre and operational grievances submitted by local transport operators.
Speaking on the occasion, Sanjay Awasthi observed that despite back-to-back challenges posed by natural disasters and political headwinds, administrative transformations are steering Himachal toward structural self-reliance.
The event was attended by Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil, MLAs Vinod Sultanpuri and Hardeep Singh Bawa, Solan Deputy Commissioner Manmohan Sharma, alongside heads of boards, corporations, and Panchayati Raj representatives.
Earlier Sukhu paid visited for obeisance at the Kali Mata Temple, offering prayers for the state's collective welfare and peace.
