UP schools to become environmental protection zone, with e-waste quizzes & activities during prayer meetings

Lucknow, Oct 13 (UNI) Proper management of old mobile phones, computers, and unused electronic devices is an important step towards environmental protection.

As part of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's efforts to promote environmental awareness and responsible civic behavior alongside education in the state, a special e-waste management campaign-6 is being organized in schools across the state on October 28 as directed by Director General of School Education, Mrs. Monica Rani.
Under the campaign, students will be made aware of the safe collection, reuse, recycling, and disposal of electronic waste through authorized agencies. Through quizzes and awareness activities during prayer meetings, the focus will be on delivering e-waste collected in schools to authorized recyclers or refurbishers.
District School Inspectors (DIOS) and District Basic Education Officers (BSAs) have been instructed to effectively conduct the campaign and monitor its activities.
This initiative aims to strengthen environmental awareness in schools, instill in students an understanding of the prudent use of resources, and make responsible e-waste management a part of their daily lives.

On October 28, special awareness activities and quizzes on e-waste management will be organized during school prayer meetings. Through posters, banners, and information, education, and communication materials, students will be informed about the potential adverse effects of electronic waste on the environment and health, its safe collection, and responsible disposal. The aim is to integrate environmental protection into students' daily lives.
Under the campaign, awareness will be created about disposing of old mobile phones, computers, and other electronic devices through authorized means instead of throwing them in general waste or burning them in the open.
During e-waste collection in schools, students will be encouraged to refrain from dismantling or dismantling electronic devices, and to deliver the collected e-waste to authorized recyclers or refurbishers. This will help make the collection and disposal process systematic and environmentally friendly.
For the effective conduct of the campaign, the DIOS and BSA have been instructed to ensure the scheduled activities in the schools in their respective areas. The concerned officials will oversee student participation, e-waste collection, and transfer to authorized agencies. Providing details of campaign-related activities in the prescribed format and ensuring online reporting will also be crucial.

Sandeep Singh, UP Minister of State for Basic Education (Independent Charge) said, “Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government is committed to providing quality education to children, making them aware of environmental protection and responsible citizens. This campaign on e-waste management in schools will play an important role in inculcating values of cleanliness, prudent use of resources, and environmental sensitivity among students.”

Monica Rani, Director General, School Education said, “Effective implementation of the prescribed activities is being ensured to increase awareness about e-waste management in schools. Regular monitoring of the campaign and reporting on the designated portal will be ensured, emphasizing active student participation, safe collection, and disposal through authorized agencies.”
