Himachal: CUHP students join tree plantation, cleanliness drive ahead of World Tourism Day

Dharamshala, Sep 24 (UNI) The School of Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Management (SOTTHM) of Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) organised community outreach, tree plantation and cleanliness activities as part of its week-long Charaiveti 2026 programme ahead of World Tourism Day.
The fourth-day programme, based on the UN World Tourism Day theme “Digital Agenda and AI: Redesigning Tourism”, was held at Juel village near Dharamshala and focused on community participation and environmental conservation.
Addressing the gathering, CUHP Dean Academic Prof Pardeep Kumar stressed the need for stronger links between academic institutions and local communities and called for greater efforts to conserve nature.
Students, faculty members and villagers planted medicinal saplings under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. They later conducted a cleanliness drive along the Manjhi riverbank, collecting plastic waste and bottles for proper disposal.
The group subsequently visited the State Institute of Hotel Management (SIHM), Khaniara, where District Tourism Development Officer-cum-Principal Vinay Dhiman and his team welcomed them. Students were taken on an institutional tour covering the institute's facilities, library and laboratories and were briefed on hospitality-sector practices.
The event brought together academic engagement, community participation, environmental stewardship and hospitality-sector collaboration as part of CUHP's World Tourism Day activities. UNI AR SS
