President Murmu urges AIIMS Bilaspur graduates to make compassion and selfless service their medical mission

Pankaj Bhaartiya
Bilaspur, Oct 6 (UNI) President Droupadi Murmu urged the first graduating batch of AIIMS Bilaspur to view medicine not merely as a profession or means of livelihood, but as a noble medium of compassion, sensitivity and selfless service to society.
Addressing the convocation ceremony, President Murmu began by paying obeisance to Mata Shri Naina Devi and acknowledging the sacred soil and rich historical legacy of Bilaspur.
The President felicitated five gold medalist students and distributed degrees to the others. A group photograph was also taken prior to the proceedings.
At the ceremony, the doctors received their degrees while dressed in kurta-pyjamas and caps; this attire had been prescribed by the AIIMS administration for both men and women. The President arrived at the AIIMS Bilaspur helipad at 10:35 am and proceeded directly to the convocation venue.
Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare J.P. Nadda, Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, and other senior state leaders attended the event.
In her address, the President said, "I am delighted to visit this sacred abode of Goddess Naina Devi. Bilaspur is a land of heroes; its brave sons have sacrificed their lives for the defence of the nation. I respectfully salute all those immortal martyrs who contributed to India's security."
President Droupadi Murmu congratulated the graduating students and gold medalists of the first batch of AIIMS Bilaspur. She remarked that being part of the inaugural batch of AIIMS Bilaspur is a moment of immense pride and a historic milestone for the students.
She stated that their fundamental duty is not merely to accurately diagnose and treat illnesses; it is equally essential to demonstrate profound sensitivity and compassion towards patients during the course of treatment.
When a patient receives empathy and a sense of personal connection from a doctor, half the battle against the ailment is already won. She mentioned that she, too, hails from a similar remote and challenging environment.
Urging the doctors, she noted that while medical professionals often hesitate to serve in remote and inaccessible areas, the nation expects doctors graduating from prestigious institutions like AIIMS to rise above this mindset.
Making an impassioned appeal, she said that true inner satisfaction comes only from selfless service.
President Murmu urged them to cultivate love and a sense of kinship in their hearts for the underprivileged people of rural and hilly regions. Bringing healthcare facilities to the person standing at the very last rung of society should be the primary mission of their lives, she said.
