Girl protests over poor quality of food in Lucknow University mess

Lucknow, Oct 1 (UNI) The uproar over the poor quality of food served at Lucknow University’s hostel messes continued on Wednesday, when a large number of female students reached the Vice-Chancellor’s office around 5.30 pm to complain about worms allegedly found in food served at the Kailash Hostel mess.
When the Vice Chancellor and Registrar were not found, the students began protesting outside the office, shouting slogans. The protest continued until 1:30 a.m. During the protest, three students fainted.
Following this, the Chief Provost issued an order to close the hostel mess.
Earlier, when the Vice Chancellor did not arrive till 10:30 pm, the girl students marched towards his residence. They alleged that to stop them, gate number three of the university was locked. When the guard was not seen there, the girl students reached gate number four but it was also locked.
The girl students said that they were protesting on the university campus in the dark till late at night but there was no one to listen to them.

More than 70 girl students were present on the university campus till 12 midnight.
The girl students said that the mess remains dirty. For almost a month, insects have been found in the food. Recently, the Vice Chancellor had inspected the hostel and given instructions to improve the arrangements.
Despite this, the quality of the food in the mess is not improving.
Hostel Provost Dr Babita, who was present during the protest, also said that the quality of the mess food remains good for a few days and then deteriorates. Despite repeated complaints to the mess manager, there is no improvement.
Chief Provost Prof. Ashish Awasthi and Provost OP Shukla were present, along with NSUI student leader Prince Prakash and SP Lohia Vahini's Abhishek Srivastava Babu.
Recently, female students at Delhi University held a protest demanding women's safety and empowerment. Unique, sarcastic slogans were raised during the protest. Students from Kailash Hostel also raised slogans like "One shortbread, two samosas, no trust in the mess."
