UP: Etawah doctor draws national attention for prescribing medicines in Hindi

Etawah, Oct 1 (UNI) An associate professor at Saifai Medical University in Etawah, Dr Sushil Kumar Yadav, has started writing prescriptions and medical advice in Hindi to help patients, particularly those from rural areas, better understand their medicines, treatment, and medical instructions.
Dr Yadav's beautifully written prescription in Hindi is going viral on social media. It is believed that he is the first doctor in the country to write prescriptions in Hindi, as well as provide advice in the same language.
He said he began writing prescriptions in Hindi after Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brijesh Pathak urged doctors to use the language so that patients and their attendants could understand medical advice more easily. He writes prescriptions for at least a hundred patients every day. Although he cannot prescribe in Hindi for every patient, he has continued the practice wherever possible.
Yadav’s inclination towards using Hindi in medicine began during his MBBS years, when he saw neurosurgeon Dr B K Maurya prescribing medicines and counselling patients in Hindi, and Dr Radha Mohan Agarwal also became an influence.
Neurosurgeons Dr Maurya and Dr Radha Mohan Agarwal have long been an inspiration to him. His affinity for Hindi grew stronger after Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brijesh Pathak appealed to doctors to write medical prescriptions in Hindi. Yadav says his passion for Hindi has also led him to write a book on ECG in Hindi, which he believes is among the first such books in the country. The book was released last year on World Heart Day. He has also authored books in Hindi on liver-related diseases and diabetes.
Yadav explains that some English words are difficult to use in Hindi, but he continues to do so. The sole purpose behind this is to ensure that patients from rural areas can easily understand the entire message and follow the doctor's advice, including taking medications and other appropriate dietary precautions.
Yadav says that he draws considerable inspiration from the founder of the Samajwadi Party, Netaji Mulayam Singh Yadav, who is a major supporter of the Hindi language. He explains that Netaji Mulayam Singh Yadav used to do most of his work in Hindi and has made a significant contribution to the promotion of Hindi throughout his political career, and that is why Netaji has been one of his biggest supporters and admirers.
