Himachal CM launches water sports at Kol Dam, eyes tourism boost and jobs

Shimla, Oct 24 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday virtually inaugurated adventure water sports activities at the Kol Dam reservoir in Aehan, Mandi district, with the state government planning to develop facilities along a 35-km stretch from Aehan to Tattapani to boost tourism and create livelihood opportunities for local youth.
The initiative is expected to provide tourists with a range of water-based recreational activities while generating employment and self-employment opportunities and strengthening the regional economy.
Sukhu said the government had decided to expand adventure water sports in the area, recognising the natural beauty of the Kol Dam reservoir and its considerable tourism potential.
Under the initiative, visitors will be able to enjoy speedboats, jet skis, banana boat rides, bumper rides and a mini cruise boat with a capacity of 20 passengers.
The activities will offer tourists an opportunity to experience the reservoir's scenic surroundings while enjoying water-based adventures.
The Chief Minister said the state government was making sustained efforts to promote tourism across Himachal Pradesh, with water sports forming an important part of its strategy.
The tourism sector provided employment and self-employment opportunities to lakhs of families and also contributed to the state's revenue, he added.
He said similar activities had already been introduced in Bilaspur and the government aimed to establish Himachal Pradesh as a leading tourism destination.
Former Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sohan Singh Thakur said the Chief Minister's vision had now translated into reality.
He said the state government was continuously working to promote tourism across the state under Sukhu's leadership.
Expressing confidence that the launch would boost tourism in the region and increase the income of local residents, Thakur said the government was working towards making Himachal Pradesh self-reliant.
