Himachal plans Rs 15,000 crore investment to boost high-end tourism

Shimla, Oct 25 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh government plans to invest Rs 10,000 crore to Rs 15,000 crore in the tourism sector over the next five years, with a focus on promoting high-end tourism, developing infrastructure and strengthening air connectivity, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said on Sunday.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the Koti Golf Cup-2026 at Naldehra Golf Course in Shimla district, Sukhu said the government was taking concerted steps to enhance the state's tourism potential and attract more visitors through improved infrastructure and better connectivity.
The two-day tournament, held on October 24 and 25, witnessed participation by over 80 players. The Chief Minister presented trophies to the winners and felicitated them for their achievements.
Sukhu said Rs 3,000 crore was being spent on land acquisition for the expansion of Kangra airport. The state government was also providing Rs 35 crore under the Viability Gap Funding mechanism to support flight operations in Himachal Pradesh.
He said the government was working to connect all district headquarters through heliport facilities, while efforts were underway to introduce connecting flights from Shimla to improve air accessibility and make travel more convenient for tourists.
The expansion of Kangra airport would facilitate the operation of larger aircraft, helping increase tourist arrivals and giving a further boost to tourism activities across the state, he added.
Highlighting initiatives to promote sustainable tourism, the Chief Minister said 60 eco-tourism sites had been leased out, generating revenue of Rs 22 crore for the state exchequer. Describing Naldehra Golf Course as one of the most scenic golf destinations in the state, Sukhu appreciated the contribution of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh towards its development.
He reiterated that the state government was committed to making Himachal Pradesh self-reliant and was undertaking necessary policy changes to achieve the objective.
Speaking on the occasion, Anirudh Singh said efforts were being made to make Naldehra Golf Course financially self-sustainable. The golf course had been opened to tourists and was attracting a large number of visitors, he added.
He said the state government had provided Rs 1.82 crore for the development of the golf course.
