Kupwara boy once near detention under PSA, shines in NEET exams

Srinagar, June 18 (UNI) A year ago, 23 year-old Zubair’s future seemed all but sealed. With a Public Safety Act (PSA) dossier ready against his name, the young boy from Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir stood on the edge. But hard work and a few helping hands had something else in store.

The boy in the recently declared NEET-UG results excelled and scored 535 marks. He is in all possibility to make a career in medicine.

The Peoples Conference Chairman and MLA Sajad Lone said that all should rejoice Zubair’s success as it is a victory of the concepts of love and compassion.

“..Zuber has excelled academically. But Zuber is much more than a young boy who has cracked NEET. The life of Zuber is a story. And I too am a part of that story. And I share a special bond with him. From depths of despair a year back Zuber has bounced back and will soon embark on a career in medicine,” Lone said in a post on X.

“An year back Zuber was all set to be booked under the PSA. The dossier was ready. His family approached me. He is a couple of years older than my children. I don’t know what happened. But I was convinced that Zubair has to be saved. I was convinced that Zubair is special and can deliver academically and move on to have an excellent career. I believed that Zubair deserves a chance,” he added.

The PSA allows detention without trial for up to two years.
Lone said he approached SSP Kupwara who was very apprehensive.

“I volunteered to personally guarantee his conduct. We talked so many times over phone and the conversation would end with disagreements. I still remember I got a call from the SSP Kupwara. He said he had given it a thought and that he too is convinced that Zubair needs to be given a chance. And congratulations to SSP Kupwara. His decision to release Zubair means he has added a doctor to the society,” MLA Lone said.

“I would have never have talked about this. But Zubair’s story is a story of triumph of love and compassion. Maybe there is a message in this story. I hope Our decision makers understand that message,” he added.

The PC head thanked the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, saying without the consent of the top officials, this would never have been possible.

“Victory in Kashmir lies in Love and Compassion. Let us all rejoice Zubair’s success. It is a victory of the concepts of love and compassion,” Lone added.
