Section 163 restrictions withdrawn in Nahan as law and order situation improves

Nahan, Oct 29 (UNI) The Sirmaur district administration has withdrawn prohibitory orders imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, in Nahan with immediate effect, following an improvement in the law and order situation around Valmiki Chowk.
According to Sirmaur Superintendent of Police (SP) NS Negi, the prohibitory orders were imposed by the District Magistrate on October 26, following a clash and stone-pelting incident involving members of the Valmiki and Sikh communities at Valmiki Chowk on October 23, 2026, amid concerns over a possible breach of peace.
The order was issued by District Magistrate Priyanka Verma on the late evening of October 26. It refers to injuries to police personnel and members of the communities, damage to public and private property, and disruption of normal movement during the incident.
The police have taken legal action in connection with the incident and arrested 11 accused persons from both the communities. The police are also identifying other individuals allegedly involved in the incident on the basis of technical evidence, the SP said.
After reviewing the situation, the district administration decided to withdraw the restrictions through an order dated October 28. The decision also takes into account the expected rush in the market area on October 29 due to the Karva Chauth festival.
However, the police will continue preventive measures, including deploying adequate personnel, monitoring sensitive locations and managing traffic, to maintain communal harmony and law and order in the city.
The police have appealed to the public to maintain peace and harmony, avoid spreading rumours and refrain from posting or forwarding inflammatory or misleading content on social media.
Residents have also been urged to cooperate with the police in maintaining security and traffic arrangements in the market area during the festival. For assistance or information, the public can contact the nearest police station or dial 112.UNI SPJ AAB
