Blue Drum murder case: Death sentence for Muskan, her lover for killing her husband in Meerut

Meerut, Oct 14 (UNI) A local court on Wednesday sentenced Muskan and her lover, Sahil Shukla, to death for the gruesome murder of her husband, Saurabh Rajput, in the infamous "Blue Drum" murder case.

District Judge Arvind Kumar Mishra pronounced death sentences to Muskan, who conspired with her lover Sahil to murder her husband Saurabh Rajput in Meerut on March 3, 2025.

The judge asked Muskaan, "You are guilty of murdering your husband, Saurabh Rajput. What punishment do you want?" She replied, "My daughter is young; please take care of her." Then she fell silent. Sahil was then asked the same question, and he too remained silent.

The court asked both the convicts, who appeared through video conferencing from the jail, whether they wanted to say anything before the sentence was pronounced. Both replied that they did not want to say anything.
After lunch, both were presented again via video conferencing, when the court then pronounced the sentence. According to information received from the jail administration, Muskan held her hands together while hearing the verdict and later began crying. Sahil Shukla's eyes also became moist.

Earlier, according to Senior Jail Superintendent Viresh Raj Sharma, Muskan had been requesting to meet her elder daughter for the past three or four days. The girl is said to be around seven years old. But the girl was not brought to the jail to meet her.

Saurabh Rajput was murdered on March 3, 2025. His body was cut into five pieces and stuffed into a blue drum. The trial began in the district court in July 2025. On September 30 last, the court convicted Muskan and Sahil of Saurabh's murder.

Public prosecutor KK Choubey had asked the court for the death penalty for Muskan and Sahil, while Muskan and Sahil's lawyer, Rekha Jain, said, "Muskan has two daughters. Her parents are elderly. The minimum sentence should be given."

The incident dates back to March 3, 2025, when Muskan and Sahil murdered Saurabh, dismembered his body and stuffed the remains into a blue drum. The two were arrested by the police 15 days later and sent to jail.

According to the crime, on March 18, 2025, Bablu, a resident of Indranagar, filed a report at the Brahmapuri police station. He stated that his brother Saurabh had been married to Muskan Rastogi, who lived opposite Shastri's house, since 2016. In 2019, Muskan had a relationship with Sahil Shukla, who lived in Ranjan Wali Gali. Saurabh had been troubled ever since.

Saurabh suddenly disappeared on March 5, 2025. The house he rented from Ompal was locked. Muskaan was also missing. Bablu suspected that Muskaan and Sahil had conspired to murder Saurabh.

On March 18, police revealed that Muskan and her lover, Sahil, murdered Saurabh on the night of March 3. After committing the crime, they left for Shimla and Manali on March 5. When they returned to Meerut on March 17, police arrested them and recovered pieces of Saurabh's body from a blue drum.

Saurabh's brutal murder sparked public outrage. On March 19, when both were produced in court under tight security, angry lawyers beat up Sahil. The police could barely protect them. Since then, both accused have been appearing in court via video conferencing.

The trial began in the District Judge's court in July 2025. The police filed a 1,000-page charge sheet. Over 22 witnesses testified on over 126 dates. The court reserved its verdict on September 19 and convicted them on September 30.
