Election Commission, bureaucracy working at BJP's behest: Akhilesh Yadav

Lucknow, Oct 12 (UNI) Samajwadi Party president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday alleged that the Election Commission and the bureaucracy are working at the behest of the BJP.
“The BJP is running constitutional institutions according to its own wishes. The government is not functioning in accordance with the Constitution. The country's democracy and Constitution are in danger. The BJP is a crisis for the country, and this crisis will end only when the party is removed from power,” he alleged.
Yadav demanded that the Election Commission come forward and declare that it would not act at the BJP's behest. He said the Commission must establish its credibility and ensure that elections were conducted fairly.
“The Samajwadi Party is going to form the government in the Assembly elections. The people and SP workers will not let the BJP succeed,” he added.
Speaking to reporters after paying floral tributes to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia's statue at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Park in Gomti Nagar on Lohia's death anniversary, Yadav alleged that the Chief Minister had instructed the Election Commission to increase the number of votes by 200 at each polling booth.
“The Chief Minister gave this instruction because he knows that the Election Commission is working at the behest of the BJP and the government. In Sarojini Nagar, Lucknow, the BJP had filled out 100 forms bearing the forged signature of a person named Dashrath to get Samajwadi Party voters' names deleted. The votes were being cancelled, and the Samajwadi Party exposed this, but the Election Commission took no action,” he alleged.
Yadav further accused the BJP government of being involved in creating fake votes and alleged that the party wanted only its supporters to be included in the electoral rolls.
“Only those whose names appear on the voter list are considered citizens of India; those whose names are not on the list will cease to be citizens of the country,” he said.
Referring to the Sadar Assembly constituency in Azamgarh, Yadav claimed that 10 votes had been registered in the name of Vikas Yadav. “One vote will be cast by Vikas Yadav, and the remaining nine will be cast by BJP members. Similarly, millions of votes have been declared fraudulent. What is the Election Commission doing? Even after such a massive Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, the existence of fake votes shows that the process is flawed,” he said.
Yadav said the Samajwadi Party would continue its peaceful protest against alleged vote theft and electoral malpractice, adding that the party would fight to protect democracy and the Constitution.
He accused the BJP government of promoting “administrative dictatorship and anarchy” and alleged that journalists and protesters were being subjected to inhumane and brutal treatment, with women journalists also facing mistreatment.
“Just as Hitler used his private force in Germany to harass and intimidate opposition leaders, BJP goons are colluding with the police to oppress protesters and women. The BJP learned all this from Hitler,” he alleged.
