BJP Councillor’s Son Among Four Held for Robbing Uber Driver in Rewari

Rewari, Oct 12 (UNI) Four men, including the son of a BJP woman councillor, have been arrested for allegedly assaulting and holding an Uber driver hostage before robbing him of money, his mobile phone and his Maruti Suzuki Celerio in Haryana’s Rewari district, police said on Monday.
The accused allegedly forced the driver to transfer around ₹13,000 through PhonePe, used his phone for a transaction at a petrol pump to obtain ₹7,000 in cash and then abandoned him near Harinagar bridge on the Narnaul road before fleeing with his car and mobile phone.
The arrested accused include Jatin, son of Rekha, a BJP councillor from Ward 15 of the Bawal Zila Parishad. The alleged involvement of the councillor’s son came to light during the police investigation. The other three accused have also been arrested, and all four are being questioned.
According to ASP Deepika Aggarwal, the complainant, Ashish, a cab driver from Modi village in Mahendragarh district, received an Uber booking at around 7.30 pm on October 10. He picked up four young men near a liquor outlet at Poswal Chowk.
When the vehicle reached the Bawadi village underpass, the men allegedly grabbed him by the throat, assaulted him and confined him to the rear seat of the car. They subsequently took him to a field, snatched his mobile phone and forced him to disclose its password.
The accused allegedly transferred around ₹13,000 from his account through PhonePe. They then used his phone to make a payment at a petrol pump and allegedly obtained ₹7,000 in cash from the salesman against an additional digital transaction.
After the alleged robbery, the men left Ashish near Harinagar bridge on the Narnaul road and escaped with his Celerio and mobile phone.
Following the complaint, Model Town police registered a case. A joint team of the Rewari Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) and Model Town police tracked down and arrested the four accused within hours, using technical evidence, police said.
Rekha said she learnt about the incident on Monday morning and subsequently spoke to her son. According to her, Jatin told her that the men were his friends, that they had held a party together and that some money had been borrowed from the complainant during the gathering. He had also claimed that the car was taken for a day.
She said the claims required investigation and that the police should take appropriate action. If her son was found guilty, he should face action, she added.
Police are questioning the accused, and further investigation is underway. UNI KK CDS
