BJP ready to contest all 117 Punjab seats, NDA means BJP-led govt: Kewal Singh Dhillon

Neeraj Bali
Chandigarh, Oct 22 (UNI) Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Thursday said the party was preparing to contest all 117 assembly seats in the 2027 Punjab elections, asserting that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre effectively meant a BJP-led government, but without explicitly ruling out an electoral alliance in the state.
Responding to questions surrounding the BJP's alliance plans, Dhillon said the party was focused on strengthening its organisation across Punjab and forming a government in the state.
"The NDA government is in power across the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union Home Minister Amit Shah, and NDA means a BJP government," Dhillon said.
"As far as the Bharatiya Janata Party is concerned, we are prepared for all 117 assembly seats. The people of Punjab have faith in us, and we will form a government with a majority in 2027," he asserted.
His remarks indicated the BJP's preparations to contest every constituency but did not constitute an explicit announcement that the party would fight the elections alone.
Dhillon accused the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of attempting to divert public attention from its governance record by raising questions about the BJP's electoral alliances.
"Stop worrying about our alliance. You have ruined Punjab on every front," he said, directing his remarks at the AAP leadership.
Dhillon further criticised the AAP government over the brief proceedings of the Punjab assembly, alleging that Thursday's sitting lasted barely eight to 10 minutes without any meaningful discussion of the state's pressing problems.
"The government is wasting lakhs and crores of rupees of public money, but it cannot run away from the people of Punjab. It must answer for drugs, gangsterism, extortion, and the deteriorating law-and-order situation," he said.
Referring to the deaths of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota, Bikramjit Singh and Gulzar Singh, Dhillon demanded justice for their families and accused the state government of failing to protect those raising their voices against drug trafficking.
He also criticised the government's handling of employee protests, alleging that workers were being intimidated instead of having their demands addressed.
"The Bharatiya Janata Party stands firmly with the employees of Punjab," he said.
Dhillon praised union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Punjab on October 20, during which he met families affected by the recent incidents and assured them of justice.
"The Home Minister promised a CBI investigation into Parvinder Singh Jhota's murder. By the time he reached Delhi, the CBI team had reached Mansa and started its investigation," Dhillon said.
He asserted that the BJP would continue supporting the families of Jhota, Bikramjit Singh and Gulzar Singh in their pursuit of justice.
Referring to Shah's stated commitment to eliminate the drug menace from Punjab by December 31, 2029, Dhillon said, "Amit Shah does what he says. Drugs will be eliminated from Punjab, come what may."
The Punjab BJP chief accused the Mann government of neglecting farmers, employees and other sections of society, alleging that drug trafficking and organised crime had become major concerns across the state.
He also accused the AAP leadership of misgovernance and said the BJP would continue raising questions about the government's performance.
Dhillon reiterated that the BJP was preparing across all 117 assembly constituencies ahead of the 2027 elections.
The AAP government's response to Dhillon's latest allegations was not immediately available.
