Uttar Pradesh: Three million lamps to illuminate Ayodhya for 10th Deepotsav

Ayodhya, Oct 22 (UNI) Ayodhya is preparing for its tenth Deepotsav, with work being stepped up along the Saryu riverfront for the event being organised under the guidance of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, as organisers aim to illuminate 56 ghats with 3 million lamps.
Following the cleaning of the ghats, marking work has begun. Preparations, from the decoration of lamps to the deployment of volunteers, are being planned. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Friday to mark the beginning of the festival of lights.
Professor Sant Sharan Mishra, professor at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University and nodal officer for the festival of lights, stated here on Thursday that some lamps break during the transport and lighting of lamps. Keeping this in mind, 3.3 million lamps are being procured against the target of lighting 3 million lamps. Following the cleaning of the ghats, systematic marking has begun. Materials to be used on the ghats are being stored near the Municipal Corporation's Rani Ho Park to ensure systematic arrangements.
With the wish for a safe and smooth celebration of the festival of lights, the Avadh University administration will perform the groundbreaking ceremony at Ghat No. 10 on the banks of the Saryu River on Friday, October 23, at 7:30 am, accompanied by Vedic chanting. The ceremony will be performed by Vice Chancellor Dr Bijendra Singh. Senior university officials, faculty members, and coordinators will be present.
This year, lamps will be lit at a total of 56 ghats, including the expanded Ram Ki Paidi, Chaudhary Charan Singh Ghat, and the Bhajan Sandhya site. Previously, the festival of lights was held at 55 ghats. Professor Sant Sharan Mishra stated that micro-planning is underway to arrange a systematic array of lamps at all ghats to ensure that preparations can be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
Dr Vinod Kumar Chaudhary, coordinator of the marking committee and chair of the Department of Environmental Science, stated that four-square-foot blocks are being marked to ensure the precise and attractive arrangement of the lamps. A blueprint for the number of lamps in each block is being prepared. His team will complete the marking work in the next three to four days.
Over 35,000 volunteers will be deployed to ensure the successful celebration of Deepotsav. These will include students from 30 degree colleges, 40 inter colleges, and the Avadh University campus. Students from various educational institutions, including Saket College, Rajkaran Vedic Pathshala Inter College, Sahabuddin Sitaram Inter College, Manohar Lal Inter College, Arya Kanya Inter College, Government Girls Inter College, Shiv Savitri College, Canossa Inter College, Grammar International School, MR Jaipuria School, BS Girls Degree College, and Bhagwan Asha Baksh Singh College, will participate. The volunteers will be responsible for everything from placing the lamps on the ghats to lighting them.
Students are being trained for this purpose. Ghat-wise responsibilities will be assigned to ensure the lamp decoration process is completed in an organised manner.
Amid preparations to set a world record by lighting millions of lamps, online registration of volunteers is in its final stages. Upon completion of registration, volunteers will be assigned ghat-wise responsibilities and identity cards. The identity cards, equipped with QR codes, will contain their name, photo, mobile number, place of deployment, and serial number. They will also be signed by authorised officials of the district administration, the Deepotsav nodal officer, and authorised representatives of the relevant organisation.
This will facilitate verification of volunteers' identities and help prevent duplication. Avadh University and the district administration are working together on all aspects, including the availability of lamps, arrangements at the ghats, deployment of volunteers, and security. UNI MBD NST
