Sachin Pilot to visit 11 Punjab districts from Oct 16, meet families of gang violence victims

Neeraj Bali
Chandigarh, Oct 15 (UNI) Congress general secretary and Punjab in-charge Sachin Pilot will undertake a five-day tour of 11 districts in Punjab from October 16 to 20 to meet families of victims of alleged gangster violence, stepping up the opposition party's attack on the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government over the state's deteriorating law and order situation.
The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), in a statement issued on Thursday, said Pilot would visit Moga, Bathinda, Mansa, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran and Amritsar.
During the tour, the Pilot will visit the homes of bereaved families, offer condolences and hear their accounts of the crimes and the response they received from the police and state government.
"Many of these killings have been claimed by or linked to organised gangs. Several families have waited months, and some years, for arrests, chargesheets or a fair trial," the PPCC said.
The Congress said the visit was aimed at highlighting the plight of families awaiting justice and drawing public attention to what it described as a worsening security situation in Punjab.
"The purpose of the yatra is to give these families a voice. The Congress party will carry their demand for justice to the public, to the state government, and, where needed, to the courts," the statement added.
The party accused the AAP government of failing to ensure public safety and timely justice for victims of organised crime.
"Mr Pilot will highlight the steady deterioration of law and order in Punjab, which has unequivocally eroded any moral right of the current AAP government to remain in office," the PPCC said.
The tour comes amid an intensifying political confrontation between the Congress and the AAP over gangster-related killings, organised criminal networks and public safety.
The Congress has repeatedly questioned the effectiveness of the state government's anti-gangster measures and the pace of investigations into violent crimes.
The party has not yet released a detailed district-wise itinerary or identified the families the Pilot is scheduled to meet.
There was no immediate response from the Punjab government to the Congress's latest allegations.
