Congress submits memo to Rajasthan State Election Commission on incidents of 'BJP engineered' cross voting

Jaipur, Sep 29 (UNI) The Opposition Congress in Rajasthan lodged a complaint with the state Election Commission about incidents of violence during civic bodies polls and alleged bids by the ruling BJP to exert pressure on police and returning officers, to work in favour of the party nominees.
"The party also complained of so called BJP engineered cross voting' by some Congress winners and Independents who either were forcibly picked up or harassed otherwise by BJP people or the police", the opposition party has alleged in a memorandum.
A high level delegation of the leaders of the grand old party on Tuesday met the State Election Commissioner Rajeswar Singh to submit the four-page memorandum to lodge a serious protest over BJP's attempts to "resort to such unfair means" to get elected the party nominees.
The delegation comprised Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Rajasthan Assembly Tikaram Jully, the Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra, Party Whip Rafeek Khan and other prominent leaders.
The delegation mentioned several incidents which had marred the electoral process, held earlier this month to elect ward members, corporators, mayors/chairpersons and deputy mayors/deputy chairpersons.
The alleged unfair means or acts of electoral irregularities - under pressure by the ruling BJP have been reported from all parts of the state. By these acts the ruling party has grabbed several posts of mayors, chairpersons or deputy mayors or deputy chairpersons, the opposition party stated in the memorandum.
The party has demanded an appropriate high level inquiry into such incidents and duly stern action against the guilty ones based on the findings of the inquiry. In the proven cases of polling, counting or other electoral process related irregularities, repolling or recounting should also be held, the party demanded in the memorandum.
Meanwhile, the principal opposition party's nationwide agitation in protest against the "proven" flaws, error and omissions in the countrywide SIR exercise and reported rift in the Election Commission of India (ECI) continued at district level in the state.
The Congress cadres under coordination by the district committee held a demonstration and burnt the effigy of the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Sawai Madhopur.
Reports of similar stir from many other districts were also recieved at the state headquarters, the party state office stated.
