Gehlot writes to CM Sharma to stop construction at Jaipur forest grove

Jaipur, June 27 (UNI) Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has written to incumbent CM Bhajan Lal Sharma making recommendation for stopping all construction work related activities at the "Dol-Ka-Badh" green forest grove here.
Gehlot also asked for the area's conservation as a monumental urban forest that could have projects like a biodiversity park.
Convinced by submissions made by "Save Dole Ka Badh Movement",Gehlot has written to CM Sharma and recommended for conceding to the environmental activists' demand of stopping construction at the location.
The Congress leader also opposed the plans of establishing Fintech Park, PM Unity Mall, Rajasthan Mandapam and hotel there.
Instead of these initiatives, the government and the Rajasthan Industrial and Investment Corporation(RIICO) may consider to bring-up projects like Biodiversity Park, Biodiversity Museum, Climate Justice Center and Herbal Research Center as recommended by the agitating activists, the former Chief Minister added.
The Dol Ka Badh is the last urban forest grove in the Pink City groomed by more than 2400 trees, including 60 medicinal vegitations that spreading over 100 acres of area in the city. The forest grove provide shelter to birds of over 85 species and wildlife like blue bull and other smaller species.
In view of submission of certain proposals, Save Dole Ka Badh Movement was launched in 2021 that gained momentum with start of construction work on the location under the previous Gehlot led Congress regime.
However, following the intervention by the then Chief Minister Gehlot, the construction work was stopped in 2023.
Deputy Chief Minister and Princess of the erstwhile Jaipur state, Diya Kumari, had also urged the state government in September 2023, to stop ongoing work and conserve the area as urban forest grove. In 2023 Diya Kumari was the Lok Sabha member from the Rajsamand constituency.
Meanwhile, the indefinite dharna and relay hunger strike by the environmental activists continued here on Friday.
Four activists including Rekha Sharma and Sangram Singh sat on hunger strike today, a movement spokesman said.
