Owaisi's activism will impact SP's Muslim support base: UP minister Rajbhar

Lucknow, Oct 13 (UNI) Om Prakash Rajbhar, Panchayati Raj Minister in the Uttar Pradesh government and President of the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), targeted the Samajwadi Party and its National President Akhilesh Yadav, claiming that Asaduddin Owaisi's increasing activism in the state could impact the SP's traditional Muslim support base.
He said that in view of the large crowds at Owaisi's rallies, the SP is conducting a secret survey to assess the political pros and cons of the alliance.
Rajbhar claimed that the Muslim community is now demanding a political share from the SP. According to him, Muslim voters who have long supported the SP are now discussing other political options.
He said that the SP is unlikely to receive the same overwhelming Muslim support as before in the 2027 assembly elections.
Rajbhar said that Owaisi had previously proposed an alliance with the SP, but the party did not take it seriously at that time. Now, with Owaisi's increased activism, the SP is reconsidering the issue. However, Rajbhar claims that the SP has conducted a confidential survey.
Citing the examples of Bihar and West Bengal, he said that a portion of Muslim voters could shift to Owaisi's party in the states where it contests elections. According to Rajbhar, this could also impact the SP's political equations in Uttar Pradesh.
The SBSP president alleged that the SP did not give adequate political participation to the Muslim community. He said that members of the Muslim community have been working for the party, but the expected discussion regarding their participation in leadership and power has not taken place.
Rajbhar questioned that if the Muslim community has consistently supported the SP, why are there no demands for political representation and leadership within the party?
He said that the Muslim community should raise its voice on issues related to education, health, employment, and government jobs, as well as on issues related to power participation.
He claimed that Owaisi is raising the question of this political share. According to Rajbhar, Muslim voters now have options other than the SP, such as Owaisi's AIMIM and the Peace Party.
Referring to Azamgarh, Rajbhar claimed that Owaisi received around three percent of the vote there even without campaigning in the last election. He said that Owaisi is already active this time, and this could impact the SP.
Rajbhar, citing Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav in Bihar and Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal, said that Owaisi's political activism should not be taken lightly. He claimed that the SP could face this in Uttar Pradesh as well.
He said that the SP should not expect to receive unanimous support from Muslim voters in the 2027 assembly elections.
Taking aim at Akhilesh Yadav, he claimed that there is resentment against the SP in the Muslim community, and the party could suffer political losses due to this in the upcoming elections.
He said that whatever political credibility the SP had left after the 2017 assembly elections could also be lost in 2027. However, Rajbhar's claims about the attitude of Muslim voters and the outcome of the upcoming elections are merely political assessments, which will only be confirmed by the election results.
