Parimal Nathwani and Dhanraj - father-son duo in Rajya Sabha

Lucknow, Sep 30 (UNI) After Mulayam-Akhilesh, Sisir Adhikari-Suvendu Adhikari, HD Deve Gowda-Kumaraswamy and Ajit Singh-Jayant Chaudhary and Jaswant Singh-Manvendra Singh father-son duos in the Parliament, now another father-son -- Parimal Nathwani and his son Dhanraj will sit together in the Rajya Sabha.
Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani, son of Rajya Sabha member from Jharkhand, filed his nomination papers on the Samajwadi Party symbol from Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.
Dhanraj too is associated with the Reliance Group like his father, and serves as a director of Reliance New Energy Limited.
He is also the president of the Gujarat Cricket Association.
In the 2009 Lok Sabha polls, Mulayam Singh Yadav was elected from Mainpuri, while Akhilesh Yadav won from Kannauj.
Mulayam and Akhilesh were together in the Lok Sabha from 2009 until Akhilesh left the House in 2012 to become Chief Minister of UP.
Similarly, Sisir Kumar Adhikari won from Kanthi, while Suvendu Adhikari was elected from Tamluk on TMC ticket in the 2009 LS polls.
In the 2009 general election, Deve Gowda was elected from Hassan in Karnataka, while Kumaraswamy won the Bangalore Rural seat. Kumaraswamy was Karnataka chief minister before entering the Lok Sabha alongside his father.
Ajit Singh was elected from Baghpat, while Jayant Chaudhary made his electoral debut from Mathura in the 2009 Lok Sabha election. But both lost in the 2014 LS polls.
However in a different way, Manvendra Singh was elected to the Lok Sabha from Barmer in 2004 and served through the 14th Lok Sabha. During the same period, his father Jaswant Singh was a member of the Rajya Sabha and served as its Leader of Opposition from 2004 to 2009.
But in the 2009 Lok Sabha election, Jaswant Singh won the Darjeeling Lok Sabha seat, while Manvendra lost the Barmer election.

Darjeeling’s ‘Sisne Paha’ frog shows extremely low genetic diversity: Study

Varanasi, Oct 1 (UNI) Research by scientists from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and Calcutta University has found extremely low genetic diversity in the Marbled Cascade Frog (Amolops marmoratus), known locally as 'Sisne Paha' or 'Sisne Pa', found in the Darjeeling and Kalimpong regions. Scientists have cited this as a serious conservation concern and urged the need to protect its population.

Himachal CM announces higher milk, apple procurement prices to boost rural economy

Shimla, October 1 (UNI) Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday announced an increase in the support price of milk from December 1 and raised the procurement price of apples under the Market Intervention Scheme from Rs 12 to Rs 13 per kg, saying the measures would strengthen the rural economy and increase farmers’ incomes.
