UP Excise Revenue jumps nearly 21 pc in September, adds Rs 800 cr

Lucknow, Oct 6 (UNI) The zero-tolerance policy adopted by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath against the illicit liquor trade and mafia networks is having a direct and significant impact on Uttar Pradesh's excise revenue.
Uttar Pradesh's excise revenue rose nearly 21 per cent year-on-year in September 2026, with the department collecting an additional Rs 799.59 crore during the month amid intensified enforcement against illicit liquor and tax evasion.
According to departmental data released on Tuesday, the Excise Department collected Rs 4,611.29 crore in September 2026, compared with Rs 3,811.70 crore during the corresponding month of the previous financial year. The collection was 120.98 per cent of the monthly target, the department said.

Officials attributed the increase to an intensive enforcement drive across the state, including raids on illegal liquor outlets, demolition of illicit distilleries and arrests of members of suspected liquor mafias.
The department also stepped up checking on highways, roadside eateries and inter-state borders. Technology-based monitoring, including QR code-enabled 'Track and Trace' systems, has helped curb tax evasion and illegal liquor trade, leading to a rise in legitimate sales and directly benefiting the state exchequer, officials said.
During the first six months of the financial year 2026-27, from April to September, the department collected Rs 29,406.50 crore, compared with Rs 26,149.32 crore during the corresponding period of 2025-26.
This represents an additional collection of Rs 3,257.18 crore, with the department achieving 112.46 per cent of the corresponding previous-year collection, according to the data.
Excise Minister of State (Independent Charge) Nitin Agarwal said technology-enabled monitoring and intensive enforcement drives had helped plug revenue leakages.
“Strict vigil is being maintained from distilleries to retail outlets. Continuous raids, seizures and arrests have dismantled illegal networks, the direct result of which is reflected in this record revenue collection.This strict enforcement will continue in the coming months of the current financial year as well,” Agarwal said.
Excise Commissioner Dr Adarsh Singh said the additional revenue of nearly Rs 800 crore collected in September reflected the impact of the government's enforcement measures.
"Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, mafia rule and illegal activities are being completely eradicated from the state. The additional revenue of nearly Rs 800 crore generated in September is evidence of people's trust in a transparent system. This additional revenue will further accelerate the development of infrastructure, education, healthcare and welfare schemes in the state," Singh added.
"There is no place in Uttar Pradesh for those involved in the illicit liquor trade," he added.
Under the special enforcement campaign conducted in September 2026, the department carried out raids at more than 89,000 locations, seized over 2.33 lakh litres of illicit liquor and arrested 251 accused.
