All schools, anganwadis closed in Sirmaur amid heavy rain alert

Nahan, June 30 (UNI) In response to a red and orange alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), all government and private educational institutions, including Anganwadis, have been ordered shut in Sirmaur district till today.
District Magistrate Priyanka Verma, who also heads the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), issued an order on June 29 to keep all educational institutions closed as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and the public amid predictions of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.
According to the IMD, Sirmaur is likely to witness severe weather conditions with a red alert in place for June 29 and an orange alert for June 30.
Forecasts warn of potential landslides, flash floods, falling trees, and blocked roads, posing serious threats to life and property.
With rural areas already experiencing road disruptions due to incessant rain over the past few days, concerns have been raised about the safety of students, especially those travelling from remote and hilly regions.
Most of the rivers and rivulets are flowing above danger marks. Jatton Barrage near Renuka had 46 mm rainfall in the last 24 hrs.
57 roads are disrupted in the district: Shillai had 32 roads closed, Sangrah 13, and Nahan seven roads.
The order was issued under Section 30 (v) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and strict compliance has been directed for all government departments and private school administrations.
The District Magistrate has also appealed to locals and tourists to avoid venturing near rivers, drains, and steep slopes during the alert period.
