Jammu, June 25 (UNI) The traffic has been restored on the strategic Jammu-Srinagar national highway, while a labourer was rescued from River Tawi in the heart of Jammu City today.
The Jammu-Srinagar national highway was closed early morning when heavy rains triggered a mudslide near Ramban.
"The men and machinery were immediately pressed into service, and the traffic was restored on the highway," said police.
They said that the stranded vehicles are being cleared.
In a separate incident, a labourer was rescued by the State Disaster Rescue Force (SDRF) team from River Tawi Waters in the Nowabad area.
Police said that a labourer engaged in the River Tawi bed was trapped when the water level suddenly rose due to heavy rains in the higher reaches.
"The SDRF team was called in, and with the help of equipment, the trapped labourer was rescued," they said.
They said that the rescued man is safe and stable.
