Vaishno Devi yatra suspended on new track as rain triggers landslide, chopper service shut

Jammu, June 23 (UNI) The yatra on new track was suspended after heavy rain triggered landslides near Hemkoti while chopper service also remained shut for fifth consecutive day for pilgrims of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi nestled in Trikuta Hills of Katra town in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The batter car service also remained suspended, they said.

Officials said that landslide triggered due to heavy rains on new Hemkoti route promoting the concerned authorities to immediately suspend the yatra from new track.

"The landslide closed the new track but yatra is smoothly progressing from the old traditional route," they said adding that the men of Shrine Board and machinery are on job to clear the track.

No injuries are reported in the incident, they added.

Meanwhile they added that the chopper service from Katra to Sanjhi Chhat also remained suspended due to dense fog.

"The service will resume only after weather is fair," they added.
