Panchkula, Oct 14 (UNI) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi during October 14–15, accompanied by hailstorms, lightning and winds gusting up to 60 kmph, raising concerns over possible damage to standing crops, power lines and vulnerable structures.
In its All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin issued at 5.07 pm, the IMD forecast thunderstorms with winds reaching 40–50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, at isolated places across the region on both days.
The weather department predicted fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over Punjab on October 14 and 15 and over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on October 15. Rainfall activity is expected to weaken from October 16, although isolated showers and gusty winds may continue.
The weather disturbance is associated with an active western disturbance over northern Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir, along with a cyclonic circulation over northern Haryana.

The department warned that hailstorms and strong winds could damage standing crops, orchards, plantations, electricity and communication lines. Falling branches, uprooted trees and damage to vulnerable structures are among the potential consequences.
Farmers in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan have been advised to protect orchards and vegetable crops against hail, secure harvested produce and provide support to vulnerable horticultural plants.

The department said intense rainfall and strong winds could cause localised flooding, waterlogging, landslides, crop damage, and disruption to road and rail services in vulnerable areas.
Nagapattinam records 9 cm rain, Karaikal 7 cm
