Ravada Chandrasekhar assumes charge as Kerala Police Chief

Thiruvananthapuram, July 1 (UNI) Ravada A Chandrasekhar has assumed charge as new Director General of Police (DGP)-cum-State Police Chief, in Kerala.
Ravada A Chandrasekhar, Special Director, Intelligence Bureau (on central deputation) was appointed with effect from July 1, 2025 in the vacancy arising due to retirement of Dr. Shaik Darvesh Saheb who retired on June 30.
He took over from ADGP (Law and Order) H. Venkatesh, who was holding the charge temporarily, at a ceremony held at the police headquarters on Tuesday morning.
After signing the official documents, ADGP H. Venkatesh handed over the baton of authority to the new police chief.
ADGP (Headquarters) S. Sreejith, Battalion ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar, and other senior police officers from the headquarters and Thiruvananthapuram district attended the function.
Following this, the new police chief paid floral tributes at a memorial for police personnel who sacrificed their lives, and received the Special Guard of Honour.
A 1991-batch IPS officer of the Kerala cadre, Ravada Chandrasekhar took over as the State Police Chief after serving as Special Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) on central deputation.
He started his career as ASP in Thalassery, Kannur. He later served as SP in Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Ernakulam Rural, Railways, Vigilance Ernakulam Range, Crime Branch Thiruvananthapuram, and Palakkad.
He also served as AIG-1 at Police Headquarters and as Commandant of KAP 2nd Battalion and KAP 3rd Battalion. He has international service experience with the United Nations Mission in Bosnia.
He served as Kochi City Police Commissioner at the SP rank. He also worked as DIG in the UN Mission in Sudan, Thrissur Range, and Ernakulam Range, and as Commissioner of Police in Thiruvananthapuram City at the DIG rank.
As IG, he was with the State Crime Records Bureau before moving on central deputation to the Intelligence Bureau as Deputy Director. He held various postings in IB headquarters, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, and Vijayawada.
He was promoted to ADGP while on central deputation and later served as Additional Director of IB in Vijayawada and Mumbai.
He holds a postgraduate degree in science. In recognition of his distinguished service, he received the President’s Police Medal in 2015 and the Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2009.
