Yuva Morcha blocks Kerala Minister Shaji’s vehicle, forces him to leave on foot

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 30 (UNI) Yuva Morcha activists on Wednesday blocked the vehicle of Kerala Local Self-Government Minister K M Shaji at Vanross Junction here, forcing the minister to get out of the vehicle and leave the spot on foot.
The incident occurred while Shaji was returning from the Secretariat and has brought renewed attention to the security arrangements for ministers amid a series of protests targeting the vehicles of ruling-front leaders in the state.
According to sources, the protesters stopped the minister’s vehicle near Vanross Junction and prevented it from moving ahead. Shaji remained inside the vehicle for some time before getting out and attempting to continue his journey in an autorickshaw.
The protesters reportedly stopped the autorickshaw as well, following which the minister left the area on foot.
Shaji was travelling with his gunman and personal staff and was not accompanied by a pilot or escort vehicle at the time of the incident, sources said.
The incident comes amid heightened political tensions in the state following a Youth Congress protest during union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Kollam recently. The BJP and its youth wing Yuva Morcha subsequently stepped up protests against Chief Minister V D Satheesan, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala and other Congress leaders and ministers.
Earlier, Yuva Morcha activists had staged black-flag protests against ministers and other Congress leaders at different places in the state.
In Neyyattinkara, Yuva Morcha workers had reportedly blocked the vehicle of Minister O J Janish and shown black flags, leading to a confrontation with Congress workers. BJP Thiruvananthapuram South district president Mukkampalamoodu Biju was injured in the clash.
The series of protests has prompted increased attention to the security arrangements for the Chief Minister and other ministers, particularly while they are travelling through the state capital.
The latest incident involving Shaji has further highlighted concerns over the security of ministers amid continuing political confrontations in Kerala.
