Kerala CM's 32 Gospel discourses reach wider audience in English; DC Books brings out ‘Adam, Where Art Thou?’

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 6 (UNI) A collection of 32 speeches by Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan, exploring Biblical teachings, Christian philosophy and their relevance to contemporary society, has been published in English by DC Books, taking the Malayalam work to a wider readership.
Titled ‘Adam, Where Art Thou?’, the 198-page book is the English translation of Satheesan’s Malayalam work ‘Adam Nee Evide Aakunnu?’, which brought together his addresses delivered at gatherings organised by different Christian denominations across Kerala. The original work attracted considerable readership soon after its publication and was reported to have entered the bestseller lists within three months.
The book draws upon the Bible, which Satheesan has described as a major influence on his political life, and presents his reflections on faith, human values, social responsibility and the moral obligations of individuals. The 32 speeches, originally delivered before different Christian communities, explore Biblical narratives and the teachings of Jesus Christ in the context of contemporary social realities.
The title is inspired by the question posed by God to Adam in the Book of Genesis. Moving beyond its immediate Biblical context, the question is presented as an appeal for human introspection, asking individuals to examine their responsibilities towards fellow human beings, society and the natural world.
Through references to Biblical episodes and Christian philosophy, Satheesan reflects on the values of compassion, love, forgiveness, service and concern for the marginalised. The speeches also examine the challenges confronting contemporary society, including human suffering, the weakening of family relationships and the need to strengthen mutual understanding and social harmony.
An important dimension of the publication is the collaboration involved in bringing the work to English readers. Writer Rouf Rumi has translated the speeches into English, while Roy Mathew, Media Secretary to the Chief Minister, coordinated their compilation and editorial arrangement. The cover design of the English edition has been done by Arun Gokul.
The original Malayalam edition also received a strong response in the book market. DC Books managing partner Ravi Deecee had earlier said that the publication had sold more than 20,000 copies within two months of its release and had consistently figured among the bestselling titles. A new edition was subsequently launched in July.
Publisher Ravi Deecee said the English edition would make the ideas and reflections contained in the book accessible to a larger readership beyond the Malayalam-speaking community.
The 198-page English edition is priced at Rs 349 and is available through bookstores and digital platforms.
