Apollo MedSkills partners Zarmed University to offer overseas MBBS programme for Indian students

Hyderabad, June 27 (UNI) Apollo Medskills Ltd, a division of Apollo Hospitals Group, today said it has partnered with Zarmed University in Uzbekistan, to provide experienced Indian teaching faculty for teaching MBBS course in English medium to Indian students enrolled exclusively through “ ZAAP MBBS Program’ at Zarmed University.
The ZAAP MBBS programme will provide full time resident Indian teaching faculty to teach MBBS courses in English medium for the first time in overseas universities.
The courses will be imparted at Zarmed University’s campuses – Samarkand and Bukhara, said Apollo MedskillsCEO Dr Srinivas Rao Pulijala in a press conference here..
To apply for the overseas MBBS programme, the candidate must qualify NEET ( National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) and the all-inclusive cost for the entire 6-year program—including tuition fees, coaching fee, hostel, food, initial visa processing, and other formalities—is costing less than ₹ 32 lakhs. This fee is very competitive compared to other universities abroad , he said.
Out of over 20 lakh students appear for the NEET entrance examination every year in pursuit of admission to MBBS programs across India, nearly 10 lakh qualified candidates are unable to secure a medical seat and are compelled to pursue alternate undergraduate courses, Out of 700 medical colleges in the country, 1.20 lakh medical seats are available against qualified candidates.
Of this group, around 10 per cent opt to study MBBS abroad in countries such as Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Philippines, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and others. As per the National Medical Commission (NMC)—the apex body regulating medical education in India—students who complete their MBBS abroad must qualify the FMGE/NExT examination to be eligible to practice medicine and to pursue PG degree in India. Moreover, only those foreign programs whose curricula align with NMC guidelines are recognized.
However, statistics show that only 6–20 percent of students who study abroad successfully clear the FMGE/ NExT examination, leaving a significant 80–90 percent seeking alternative paths despite substantial investment of time and money. The low success rate can be primarily attributed to differences in teaching methodologies, language barriers, inadequate practical training at foreign institutions, and insufficient preparation for the NExT exam, he informed.
To bridge this gap and improve educational outcomes for Indian students pursuing MBBS abroad, Apollo MedSkills has partnered with Zarmed University, Uzbekistan, starting from the current academic year 2025-26, he said.
This initiative marks the first-of-its-kind partnership between a reputable Indian medical education and skills development organisation and an overseas university, designed to offer Indian students a learning experience on par with Indian medical colleges. UNI KNR SSP
