AP govt gives compassionate appointments to 43 power sector employees : Power Minister

Visakhapatnam, Oct 5 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Power Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar on Monday said the State government was committed to supporting families of employees who died while in service and had so far provided more than 450 jobs on compassionate grounds.
The Minister, along with MP M Bharat, MLA P Srinivas, AP power utilities CMD I Prithvi Tej and other officials, participated in a programme here where appointment letters were handed over to 43 beneficiaries on compassionate grounds.
Speaking on the occasion, Ravi Kumar said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was according priority to the power sector and had taken several measures to put it on the right track.
He alleged that the previous YSRCP government had increased power tariffs every six months, which adversely affected the agricultural sector.
The present government was taking steps to strengthen the power sector, including filling 629 Assistant Engineer (AE) posts, he said.
The Minister said around 7,000 Energy Assistants working in village secretariats had been brought under the Discoms.
The government was also spending substantial amounts on modernisation of the power sector with the objective of developing Andhra Pradesh as a model for the country, he added.
