Kakinada Municipal Commissioner Launches ‘Swachh Kakinada’ Sanitation Drive, Issues Cyclone Alert

Kakinada, Oct 23 (UNI) Municipal Corporation Commissioner N.V.V. Satyanarayana on Friday inaugurated a special sanitation drive across the city, aiming to transform the port town into a garbage-free ‘Swachh Kakinada.’
Emphasizing that community participation is key to the campaign’s success, the Commissioner announced the appointment of designated special officers for every municipal ward to resolve civic grievances on the spot.
Contact details for these officers have been displayed at respective ward secretariats, allowing citizens to report issues regarding sanitation, drinking water supply, drain desiltation, and malfunctioning streetlights directly.
Commissioner Satyanarayana noted that he is conducting daily video conferences between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM with all ward special officers to monitor on-ground progress and tackle bottlenecks in real time.
Addressing the persistent problem of clogged storm drains, the Commissioner warned that discarding single-use plastics into the drainage network severely disrupts water flow.
He instructed commercial establishments—including tea stalls, hotels, and retail shops—to maintain operational dustbins outside their premises for waste disposal, cautioning that heavy fines will be levied on violators dumping commercial waste into public drains.
The civic body has also initiated strict enforcement measures against unauthorized banners and flex boards across the city.
In view of impending heavy rainfall triggered by a cyclone alert, municipal engineering and sanitation wings have been placed on high alert.
Desiltation work in low-lying pockets has been fast-tracked, while clearing of garbage at primary outfall sluices is underway on priority to avert waterlogging.
The Commissioner appealed to residents to actively cooperate with municipal teams to ensure a clean, flood-resilient city.
