Hyderabad Liberation Day reflects India’s journey from integration to constitutional democracy: VP

Hyderabad, Sep 17 (UNI) Vice President C P Radhakrishnan on Thursday said Hyderabad Liberation Day marks a decisive chapter in the history of independent India and reflects the nation’s journey from political integration to constitutional democracy.
Addressing the 79th Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations organised by the union Ministry of Culture at Parade Grounds, Secunderabad, Mr Radhakrishnan said the erstwhile Hyderabad State was integrated with the Indian union following Operation Polo in September 1948. The operation, launched on September 13, concluded with the surrender of the Nizam’s forces on September 17.
He said the Centre had been commemorating the day since 2022 to honour those who sacrificed their lives for Hyderabad’s liberation and integration and to bring the stories of lesser-known heroes to the younger generation.
