Telangana: BC employees seek promotion quota, removal of creamy layer

Hyderabad, Sep 20 (UNI) A Joint Action Committee representing 80 Central and State government BC employees' associations on Sunday demanded reservation in promotions for BC employees and removal of the ‘creamy layer’ criterion from BC reservations in education and employment.
The associations, formed by BC employees of the Central government and public sector undertakings, elected Dana Karna Chari as their president. Addressing the meeting, BC leader R. Krishnaiah said reservation in promotions was essential to ensure adequate representation of BCs in higher positions.
He demanded that the Centre introduce a Constitutional Amendment Bill in the next Parliament session to provide reservation in promotions for BC employees. He also sought an increase in Central reservations for BCs in education and employment from 27 per cent to 56 per cent in proportion to their population.
On the ongoing caste enumeration, the associations welcomed the inclusion of caste data but demanded a separate OBC category and a unique code for each caste to ensure accurate population figures.
The meeting also adopted resolutions seeking a BC political reservation bill, a separate ministry and development schemes for BCs, a BC Act for social protection, reservation for SCs, STs and BCs in the private sector and judicial appointments, full coverage of post-matric scholarships and fee reimbursement, and regularisation of outsourcing and contract employees in Central PSUs.
