Russian woman held in Kovalam for staying without valid travel documents

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 8 (UNI) Kovalam Police have taken into custody a 44-year-old Russian woman who had allegedly been staying at a homestay in Kovalam for nearly three months without essential travel documents, including a passport and visa.
The woman, identified as Anna Alkseiva, was taken into custody by a police team led by Kovalam Station House Officer Sheena.
According to police, Anna had been staying at a homestay owned by Hussain. The police have initiated steps to register a case against the homestay owner for allegedly failing to provide the authorities with details of the foreign national staying at the premises.
Police said the woman had earlier stayed at the same homestay in 2019. She subsequently travelled to Goa, where she is understood to have married a person named Peter.
Although there are reports that Anna had migrated to Russia from Uzbekistan, police said the information had not been officially confirmed.
The woman was taken before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Thiruvananthapuram for verification, and authorities are collecting further details about her identity, travel history and stay in India.
Police said further action would be taken based on the FRRO's report and after verification of her details with the Russian authorities, including the possibility of deportation.
