Dr Sudha Yadav appointed Karnataka Governor

Bengaluru/New Delhi, Oct 12 (UNI) Dr Sudha Yadav, who entered politics following the death of her husband in the 1999 Kargil War and went on to become a member of the BJP's top decision-making body, has been appointed Governor of Karnataka, marking a new phase in her public life.
President Droupadi Murmu on Monday appointed Dr Sudha as Karnataka Governor as part of a reshuffle of gubernatorial appointments in six states.
Dr Sudha's political journey began in the aftermath of the Kargil conflict, in which her husband, Sukhbir Singh Yadav, a Deputy Commandant in the Border Security Force, was killed. A lecturer by profession, she subsequently joined the BJP and contested the 1999 Lok Sabha election from Mahendragarh in Haryana.
She won the seat, defeating Rao Inderjit Singh, and entered the 13th Lok Sabha. Her victory brought her into electoral politics at a time when the country was still dealing with the consequences of the Kargil conflict.
However, Dr Sudha could not retain the seat in the 2004 Lok Sabha election. She later contested from Gurgaon in 2009 but was unsuccessful.
Dr Sudha subsequently strengthened her position within the BJP through organisational responsibilities. She served as head of the party's OBC Morcha and was appointed to the National Commission for Backward Classes in 2019.
In August 2022, she was inducted into the BJP Parliamentary Board, the party's highest decision-making body, reflecting her standing within the organisation.
Her appointment as Karnataka Governor marks a transition from party politics to a constitutional position. As Governor, Dr Sudha will be responsible for discharging the functions of the office in accordance with the Constitution.
Her political career, spanning electoral politics and party organisation, has taken her from Haryana to a constitutional assignment in Karnataka.
