Kerala Congress chief accuses ruling CPI(M) of planned attacks on Congress offices, leaders

Kannur, May 16 (UNI) The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Sunny Joseph, MLA, has accused the state's ruling CPI (M) of orchestrating planned attacks and provocations with the knowledge and blessings of the party's State leadership and district secretary.
Sunny Joseph said the CPI(M) cadres have launched widespread attacks on Congress offices and leaders' houses, citing a recent incident at Malappattam, a CPI(M) stronghold in Kannur. He also alleged that police are abetting all this violence, despite having prior information.
The KPCC president said the CPI(M) is disrupting the law and order of the State by making the police inactive and that the Home department is completely failing to control the CPI(M) criminals and take action against them.
He claimed that the aim of the CPI(M) is to prevent anti-government voices and create an atmosphere of fear, thereby destroying Kannur's peace.
Sunny Joseph said the CPI(M) criminals attacked the house of Congress Taliparamba constituency vice president K Irshad last night and damaged the window panes and damaged the car parked on the house premises, while Irshad's father was assaulted. The party flags of Congress, Youth Congress and KSU were also torn down in Panoor, he said.
He further alleged that the violence began with the vandalism of a Gandhi statue at the residence of Youth Congress Taliparamba constituency secretary Saneesh.
KPCC working committee Member K. Sudhakaran, MP and Rahul Mangkootathil MLA were reportedly attacked during peaceful protests.
The CPM carried out widespread violence against Congress workers who were peacefully protesting against it. The CPM is further aggravating the situation with death threats, threats and provocative speeches, he said.
In a particularly controversial statement, CPM District Secretariat member P.V. Gopinath alleged that he would not allow the installation of a Gandhi statue in Malapattam. Reacting to this, Sunny Joseph declared, "The Congress party will rebuild the Gandhi Statue at Malappattam. If the CPI(M) tries to demolish it again, we will firmly resist their violence in Kannur," the Congress release said today.
