YSRCP complains to Andhra Pradesh SEC over nomination obstruction

Vijayawada, Oct 23 (UNI) Opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders on Friday lodged a complaint with State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha, alleging violence, obstruction of nominations and electoral irregularities by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) workers.
Addressing the media outside the State Election Commission (SEC) office, MLCs Lella Appi Reddy and Kalpalatha Reddy, along with Employees and Pensioners Wing state president Nalamaaru Chandrasekhar Reddy, sought immediate intervention by the poll authority.
Appi Reddy alleged that YSRCP candidates were obstructed from filing nominations even on the final day, while opposition leaders were placed under house arrest and ruling-party candidates were allowed unrestricted access. He also accused police and revenue officials of failing to act against alleged attacks on candidates and the tearing of nomination papers.
He said that despite Supreme Court directions, the SEC had provided relief in only four of the 19 affected municipalities. He also criticised the issuance of police escort instructions shortly before the nomination deadline, saying it left insufficient time for candidates travelling from villages.
Appi Reddy demanded an extension of the nomination deadline, adequate protection for candidates and action over alleged fabricated nominations and withdrawals. He also questioned the new deadlines for submitting B-forms and sought action against the TDP over the alleged irregularities.
Kalpalatha Reddy alleged that women candidates had faced attacks, including physical assault, and questioned the response of Home Minister V. Anitha. She demanded effective police protection and justice for those affected.
Chandrasekhar Reddy accused officials of failing to intervene during the alleged attacks and called for immediate action.
The YSRCP leaders also condemned the alleged police assault on former minister Vidadala Rajini in Chilakaluripet and sought an independent intervention by the SEC.
