HDK seeks sting probe, Cong accuses him of masterminding it

Bengaluru, Nov 3 (UNI) The controversy surrounding the alleged sting operation involving former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has triggered a fresh political confrontation, with union Minister HD Kumaraswamy demanding an impartial investigation, Congress leaders accusing him of masterminding the operation and union Minister V Somanna defending him against the allegations.
Kumaraswamy questioned the direction of the police investigation, arguing that the focus should be on identifying who recorded and orchestrated the video rather than merely tracing who uploaded it. He alleged that the Karnataka government was shielding those responsible and called for a fair and impartial probe into the episode.
The union Minister also questioned the authenticity and circumstances surrounding the release of the video, insisting that investigators should establish who was behind its recording and circulation. He maintained that the investigation should not be confined to the person who uploaded the footage but should trace the larger chain of events leading to its release.
Escalating the political attack, Karnataka Minister Krishna Byre Gowda accused Kumaraswamy of masterminding the release of the sting video. He alleged that the operation involved the union Minister's social media team, official residence and financial resources. Congress spokesperson M Lakshmana also levelled allegations against Kumaraswamy, intensifying the confrontation between the ruling party and the opposition.
Coming to Kumaraswamy's defence, union Minister V Somanna criticised Congress leaders for targeting him over the controversy. He accused the ruling party of using the police machinery against political opponents and questioned the motives behind the allegations.
The controversy has widened into a political confrontation, with the Congress seeking to link Kumaraswamy to the release of the video, while the union Minister is demanding that the investigators establish who actually recorded and orchestrated the alleged sting operation.
The competing allegations have added another flashpoint to the ongoing political rivalry between the Congress and the BJP-JD(S) opposition in Karnataka, with the investigation and the circumstances surrounding the video emerging as the central points of contention.
