Kerala Home Minister seeks apology from Rajeev Chandrasekhar over Rahul Gandhi remarks

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 29 (UNI) Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday demanded that BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar apologise to the people for insulting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Chennithala said Rahul Gandhi was fighting to protect Indian democracy and described the BJP leader's remarks against him as a challenge to the people.
He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP were attempting to weaken Indian democracy by exerting influence over institutions, including the Election Commission.
"The Election Commission was once a system that served as a model to the entire world. Today, it has been reduced to the level of a BJP local office," Chennithala alleged.
He further alleged that the Chief Election Commissioner was functioning like a "peon" in the Prime Minister's Office.
Rahul Gandhi was leading a major people's struggle against the Modi government by raising these issues, he said.
Chennithala said the large participation of people in the recent programmes led by Rahul Gandhi showed that people were rallying behind his fight to protect democracy.
He alleged that Chandrasekhar and the BJP were unable to understand the growing public anger against them and said the Modi government was becoming increasingly isolated from the people.
"Without understanding this reality, Rajeev Chandrasekhar and the BJP are insulting Rahul Gandhi. They are only spitting against themselves while lying on their backs," Chennithala said.
