Sting Operation: KPCC to issue showcause notice to Kripa Alva

Mysuru, Oct 23 (UNI): Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president BK Hariprasad on Friday said the party would issue a showcause notice to its spokesperson Kripa Alva, seeking an explanation over her alleged involvement in the purported sting operation targeting former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The development came after Urban Development Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah alleged that a Congress woman leader aspiring for an Assembly ticket had joined hands with a media organisation head to carry out the operation.
Speaking to reporters in Mysuru, Yathindra said the woman leader was keen on securing a Congress ticket to contest from Puttur Assembly constituency in Dakshina Kannada district. He called for an investigation to establish whether those allegedly involved had acted independently or at the behest of others.
Although Yathindra initially did not name anyone, Siddaramaiah later identified the woman as Kripa Alva and the media representative as Rakesh Shetty, owner of Power TV.
Yathindra clarified that the alleged involvement of an individual party worker should not be construed as the Congress party acting against his father. He said Siddaramaiah had spoken to Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Home Minister Priyank Kharge to ensure a proper investigation and the arrest of those responsible.
Congress sources indicated that the party was considering disciplinary action, including expulsion, against Alva over the controversy.
Meanwhile, union Minister HD Kumaraswamy alleged that Alva and Shetty had played a key role in orchestrating the purported sting operation, describing the episode as a fallout of internal political rivalry within the Congress.
Home Minister Priyank Kharge said individuals aspiring for political positions could be behind the episode but maintained that no senior Congress leaders were involved. He said the investigation was progressing as planned and there was no need for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe at this stage.
