Kumaraswamy alleges ₹600 crore deal against Deve Gowda family

Bengaluru, Oct 25 (UNI) union Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday accused Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar of being behind an alleged ₹600 crore deal to politically "finish off" the family of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, intensifying the political battle over the ongoing sting operation controversy.
Linking the alleged deal to what he described as a series of conspiracies against his family, Kumaraswamy demanded a comprehensive investigation into the sting operation and questioned the state government's handling of the case.
“There is no doubt that the Chief Minister is the one who has spoken about finishing off a family; that is Deve Gowda’s family. There are many conspiracies that have been plotted against our family, and this (₹600 crore deal) is one among them,” he told presspersons here.
Kumaraswamy alleged that the investigation was being directed against people unconnected with the case while those he described as the key figures behind the sting operation were being allowed to evade effective scrutiny.
“If I ask the government to arrest the kingpin of sting operations, it allows him to take anticipatory bail. The government is targeting persons who are unconnected with the case,” he said.
He also questioned the circumstances surrounding the suspicious death of Vikas, who allegedly worked for a person linked to the sting operation, and criticised Home Minister Priyank Kharge for seeking evidence when he raised the issue.
Kumaraswamy further accused Kharge of shielding those allegedly involved in the operation, stepping up his attack on the Congress government over the probe.
The controversy has widened into a political confrontation between the Congress and the JD(S), with the latter alleging that the investigation was being manipulated to implicate its leaders and workers. The party has questioned the police action against people associated with its social media team and demanded an impartial probe into the origin, recording and circulation of the sting videos.
The Congress, meanwhile, has called for the allegations surrounding the operation to be investigated, while the state government has maintained that the probe would establish the facts and identify those responsible.
The alleged ₹600 crore deal and the purported conspiracy against the Deve Gowda family have not been independently established. The investigation is expected to be crucial in determining the circumstances behind the sting operation and the competing allegations by the two political camps.
