BJP's Namoshi faces acid test as Mattura seeks electoral revenge

Bengaluru, Oct 19 (UNI) The North-East Teachers’ constituency election to the Karnataka Legislative Council has emerged as a test of the Congress’ ability to challenge the BJP in a seat long contested by the two parties, with sitting MLC Shashil Namoshi facing Congress nominee Sharanappa Mattura in a renewed electoral battle.
With polling scheduled for October 23, the contest has acquired added significance as the Congress seeks to translate its position in the state government and its Assembly-level strength in the region into an electoral advantage over the BJP.
For Mattura, the election offers an opportunity to settle scores with Namoshi, whom he defeated in 2014 but failed to dislodge in the 2020 contest. Namoshi, a four-time member of the Legislative Council and president of the Hyderabad Education Society in Kalaburagi, is seeking to retain the constituency.
