BJP stands by Musi displaced, opposes demolitions without rehabilitation: Ramchander Rao

Hyderabad, Oct 30 (UNI) BJP Telangana president N Ramchander Rao on Friday said the party was not opposed to Musi River rejuvenation but would strongly resist the demolition of houses without proper compensation and rehabilitation for affected families.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP state office, he demanded that the government hold a direct public hearing with displaced residents before proceeding with the project.
He criticised the October 28 public hearing, alleging that several affected families, including ex-servicemen living in the Madhu Park area, were not allowed to participate.
He also questioned the government for announcing projects worth thousands of crores without making the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and budget allocations public.
Rao announced that union Home Minister Amit Shah would participate in a BJP Maha Padayatra on November 2, beginning at 1500 hours from the Babu Jagjivan Ram statue near Nizam College and concluding at Mozamjahi Market.
The rally is intended to counter what the BJP termed as Congress misinformation over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
He defended the SIR process, stating that voters and political parties could raise objections through the prescribed procedures.
Questioning the Congress-led INDIA alliance's proposed mock Parliament, Rao accused the party of double standards, recalling that Sonia Gandhi had criticised a similar exercise in 2010 as a mockery of democracy.
He also claimed that the BJP had won 16 of the 23 MLC seats in recent elections elsewhere, and criticised Congress leaders over their allegations against EVMs.
He further defended South Central Railway over the non-allocation of special trains for the November 1 INDIA alliance rally, stating that advance booking procedures and prescribed payments were necessary.
