India-Australia joint military exercise AUSTRAHIND to conclude on Nov 1

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 30 (UNI) The 14-day joint military exercise AUSTRAHIND-2026, involving the Indian Army's Garhwal Rifles and Australia's 13th Infantry Brigade, will conclude on November 1 after a series of intensive combat training programmes and coordinated operational drills across jungle, island and coastal terrains.
Commenced on October 19, the exercise has focused on enhancing the operational capabilities, combat preparedness and interoperability of the two forces through joint mission-oriented training. The Indian Navy and Kerala Fire and Rescue Services have also joined the exercise to strengthen inter-agency coordination and improve preparedness for emergency situations.
The participating troops have undergone intensive training covering physical conditioning, tactical manoeuvres and operations in diverse geographical environments. The exercise subsequently progressed to maritime and air operations, with personnel undertaking sea and air insertion drills to develop capabilities in coordinated troop induction, tactical movement and mission execution under challenging operational conditions.
Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations have also formed an important part of the joint training, with particular emphasis on rescue missions, casualty evacuation and coordinated emergency response. The involvement of the Indian Navy and Kerala Fire and Rescue Services has further broadened the scope of the exercise by bringing military and civilian emergency response agencies together.
The joint drills are designed to strengthen combat readiness, improve operational coordination and develop seamless interoperability among the participating forces, particularly in responding to complex security and disaster-related contingencies.
Besides enhancing professional cooperation between the two armies, the exercise is expected to further reinforce mutual trust and strengthen the enduring defence partnership between India and Australia.
