Ruling TVK part of INDIA alliance, says TNCC Chief

Chennai, Oct 9 (UNI) TNCC President and Lok Sabha MP B.Manickam Tagore, while greeting Chief Minister Vijay for his party's victory in two bypolls, on Friday evening said the ruling TVK was part of the INDIA alliance and referred to its participation in the meeting held afew days ago where it was formally inducted into it.
Asked about the absence of an official announcement on TVK’s inclusion in the INDIA bloc, Tagore, talking to reporters on the arrangements made for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi student outreach programme at Island Grounds in the city tomorrow, said the TVK's general secretary and ministers had participated in the recent INDIA bloc meeting. Discussions were under way on the alliance’s future consultations and protests, he added.
Responding to a question on INDIA alliance leadership in Tamil Nadu, Tagore said meetings were being held under the leadership of the Congress. He claimed that eight parties, including the Indian National Congress, TVK, the Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India (Marxist), were working together.
On former Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin’s remarks alleging betrayal, Tagore said the repeated use of such expressions was unnecessary. Referring to Stalin’s reported comment that the Congress should forfeit its deposit in Puducherry, he said the Congress had subsequently lost its deposit there.
Asked whether the bypoll results represented a setback for the DMK and AIADMK, Tagore described them as a victory for the Vijay-led government and the Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance.
On the CPI and CPI(M) candidates forfeiting their deposits, he said the two parties contested elections on ideological grounds and deserved respect for their political positions.
Tagore also dismissed reports that the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) would join the TVK Cabinet, describing them as media speculation and that he was not aware of any official announcement on the matter.
Meanwhile, Congress secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir described tomorrow Rahul interaction with Gen Z as a historic opportunity for students to present their problems, grievances and demands directly to the top Congress leader.
Pointing to concerns over NEET and unemployment, Mir urged young people to participate without hesitation and share their views.
He said between one lakh and 1.5 lakh or more students had registered through QR codes. Rahul Gandhi was scheduled to attend the programme at 5 p.m. on Saturday, he added.
Mir said the event would serve as a platform for students to make their voices heard and communicate their concerns directly to the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
