A day after PM visit, RV Arlekar appointed full-time TN Guv

Chennai, Oct 12 (UNI) In a significant political development amid reports of the TVK government and the Lok Bhavan having cordial relations and a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit, Kerala Governor Rajendra Viswanath Arlekar, who was given additional in-charge of Tamil Nadu, was on Monday night appointed as full time Governor of the state.
President Droupadi Murmu issued the appointment orders of Arlekar as the full time Governor of Tamil Nadu, formalising his position after he took over as the additional charge in March following the end of R.N.Ravi’s tenure.
The appointment is part of a wider gubernatorial reshuffle involving six States — Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Odisha, Karnataka, Uttarakhand and Sikkim. While Arlekar has been named Governor of Tamil Nadu, and Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur has been appointed as Governor of Keralam. Other appointments include Brij Mohan Ram for Odisha, Dr Sudha Yadav for Karnataka, Dr Dhal Singh Bisen for Uttarakhand and Dushyant Gautam for Sikkim.
Arlekar, who was serving as the Governor of Kerala, was entrusted with the additional responsibility of Tamil Nadu after the President accepted Ravi’s transfer to West Bengal in March. Arlekar assumed office as the 27th Governor of Tamil Nadu on March 12, with the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court administering the oath of office at Lok Bhavan. His latest appointment now formalises his position as the State’s Governor.
Amid the Vande Mataram row, Arlekar subsequently administered the oath of office to TVK Founder Vijay, as Chief Minister where the National song was recited and also at the event during cabinet expansion swearin-in.
However, it was not played when Arlekar deliverted his maiden customary address to the State Assembly, triggering reports of Centre's intention to have a cordial relations with the new dispensation after the tumultous tenure of his predecessor during the previous DMK regime wherein several controversies arose and the Supreme Court stepping in in giving assent to the Bills passed in the house.
The full-time appointment comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit during which Vijay and Mr Arlekar accompanied him right through his trip starting from PM's arrival at the airport. The three leaders’ presence at the programmes brought the Governor and the new State government into the public spotlight alongside the Prime Minister.
It was in this background Arlekar was made full time Governor of TN indicating the Centre's move to continue the cordial relations especially after Modi spoke on the importance of federalism during his event.
