CRS reviews railway safety measures across South Coast Railway zone

Visakhapatnam, Sep 30 (UNI) Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), South Central Circle, Madhavi, on Wednesday held a high-level safety review meeting with South Coast Railway (SCoR) General Manager Sandeep Mathur and senior officials at the zonal headquarters.
The meeting was attended by Chief Safety Officer Ch. P. R. Vittal, Principal Heads of Departments, Divisional Railway Managers through video conference and other senior railway officials.
The review focused on the zone’s overall safety performance, ongoing safety enhancement measures, statutory compliance and action plans to ensure accident-free train operations.
Madhavi stressed that safety must remain the top priority in railway operations.
She called for strict adherence to scheduled maintenance of tracks, points and crossings, overhead equipment, signalling installations, coaches, wagons and locomotives.
She also reviewed road safety works, the construction of road overbridges (ROBs) and road underbridges (RUBs), interlocking of level-crossing gates and public awareness campaigns.
She emphasised precautionary measures during the monsoon and called for expediting the installation and regular maintenance of the Kavach train protection system, digital axle counters and fire detection systems in coaches.
Mathur briefed the CRS on measures being undertaken to eliminate safety hazards and strengthen safety practices among frontline railway personnel.
He said safety audits, surprise night inspections and specialised safety counselling programmes were being conducted regularly across all divisions.
The Principal Chief Safety Officer presented an overview of safety initiatives and the compliance status of previous statutory recommendations across the zone.
